The old water wheels at Little Venice

The historic water wheels are still in operation today and are used to generate electricity. They once drove the turbines of the early industrial companies of the 19th century. At that time they were the motor for the beginning industrialization in Württemberg. Little Venice - charm of a town by the water

In Esslingen, Little Venice is the name given to the romantic quarter on the Kesselwasen. Here, the Rossneckar canal and the historic Inner Bridge form a harmonious ensemble. There was evidence of mills here as early as 1428. In the basement of a nearby kindergarten as well as next to a neighbouring house, several water wheels still turn today. Until the 20th century they powered machines and turbines. The steel boat skeleton is a sculpture by the Esslingen artist Bertl Zagst. It was created for "Stadt im Fluss" - Esslingen's major cultural festival, which takes place every three years.

Esslingen: Also a city of fountains

Esslingen is not only an atmospheric city on the river, but also a city of fountains. Water laps soothingly in many places: A total of 77 fountains - small and large, striking and worth seeing - can be discovered. In the 18th century fountains were needed to supply drinking water and for washing; today they are popular places of attraction and communication.
